Garden Route Accommodation

A week on the Garden Route

Being in Swellendam at a really special guesthouse is desirable. Actually calling it your home is reason enough to never want to leave. But leave we must, once a year, to attend the annual AGM for Cape Country Routes of which we are a proud member and the Swellendam Accommodation offering for the group.

This was a bittersweet event because our very close friend Kitty Snyman ended her long and very personal relationship with CCR by stepping down from the group. The sweet bit was that Michel has been voted on as a director and will be doing his best to get the most out of CCR and its presence at all trade shows and exhibitions.

After the AGM we set off on a little roadtrip to visit some of our colleagues from CCR and spent a most amazing night at De Zeekoe in Oudtshoorn as well as an unforgettable stay at Botlierskop near Mossel Bay. What a great excperience!

We also paid a visit to one of our favourite places, Moontide, in Wilderness where the effervescent Maureen cooked us a great dinner of ostrich neck and entertained us with fantastic gossip about her achieving 1st Princess at Miss South Africa in the 60s. She also revealed how the Botha’s (thats PW and Elize) lived just 2 doors down. Note that I said Elize. The tannie apparently hated being called Tannie Elize & she told Maureen: “I hate being called Tannie Elize, I dont know who told people to say that. It’s either Elize or Mevrou Botha.”

A bit of interesting coincidence, Elize Botha attended Swellendam High School and magnificent portrait in rich pinks adorn the walls of the foyer at the school.
